Speed starts with the right solution

Not every slow site needs more cache. Before optimising anything we look for the source of the problem and work out what is actually holding the application back. Sometimes fixing one database query, changing how data is processed or simplifying a mechanism is enough for a large gain.

We also look at Core Web Vitals and at what the user actually experiences. Speed is not a score in a tool to us, but one part of the quality of the whole application.

Questions we hear often

Can every slow site be made faster?

There is usually something that can be improved, but the answer is not always one simple change. We review the application, identify the bottlenecks and match the optimisation to the particular problem.

Is adding cache enough?

Not always. Cache can improve performance considerably, but it should not be the automatic answer to every problem. If the application is slow without cache, it is worth finding the cause first - otherwise we only hide the problem instead of solving it.

What if cache is already in place and the site is still slow?

Then it is all the more worth looking at what is going on underneath. Performance problems that survive cache usually mean the source lies in the code, the database queries, the way data is processed or some other part of the application.

What are Core Web Vitals?

Core Web Vitals are a set of Google metrics that help judge a page’s speed, visual stability and responsiveness. We treat them as an important part of assessing performance, but we do not optimise a site for the score alone.

Does a high PageSpeed score mean the site is fast?

Not necessarily. The score is a useful reference point, but how the site behaves in real conditions - and how quickly someone can actually use it - matters just as much. So we look at the metrics and at the real behaviour of the application.

Can a small change really speed up an application?

Yes. Performance often comes down to single mechanisms, queries or operations that run over and over. Changing one of them can cut the work done considerably and shorten the response time of the whole application.

Do you optimise e-commerce as well?

Yes. We optimise online shops, including those built on WooCommerce and PrestaShop. We look at page load times, database queries, how plugins and modules behave and the effect integrations have on the shop.
